The ability to see within an enterprise with operations requiring various technologies in information, communication, operational, security and compliance, or two or more of these, finds stakeholders, or the need to adjust techniques and make, some ingenious ways to be more effective in their responsibilities and deliverables or production.
Enterprise technology is not an area and language to be used where there are only some specializations involved but which still within the confines of information technology.
IT may have been serving utility operations or energy generation for sometime already and yet stakeholders cannot see how to work hand-in-hand to increase their own efficiency, and the output for which customers are very dependent. There are efforts but they remain completely separate and the result is the bigger realizations and concerns about costs rather than creation of value from the start, not just when profits began to come in.
If IT is not clearly use in such environment because of the limitations when defining organization or stakeholders' language in their technology efforts or due to some industry practices, somebody can take some notes and reflect on their related activity including increasing acquisition of technology features, one that can no longer be avoided includes digitalized applications and Internet of Things. How much more for the specific application intended for actuators, valves, transport signalling and even measuring their performance?
In fact, it is happening everywhere and those that cannot be missed are in manufacturing, factory, healthcare, homes etcetera.
Heard of mission critical services? The definition is again have to be clear without the need to bring for the differences of understanding for the court of law to decide or clarify for such a trouble. The rule-maker can do better than simply repeating the language of the main document which can be called policy. Within governments, there are called lawmakers who make the main document while the rule-makers must elaborate for the purpose of every provisions for which it will have to be adopted and enforced.
One thing very obvious is technology and policy. When an organization cannot apply policy language to their technology applications they are not taking advantage of the many benefits their stakeholders' may make. It makes both technology and policy people not making lives easier but harder, and it can go beyond their organization. Such practices may be picked up as a good thing because it's working for them but still that's making technology to do harder. It must be the opposite, everytime a new technology is being applied. The default for technology to do it harder is no longer the case, long before we've realized it, now and the future. It must change how things are being done or artificial intelligence will take over such roles and these people will even be in a more precarious situation. If AI gets in the way when people should have been doing it, the trouble is there in history already, from those who has experienced being taken out of a job because it doesn't know how to use the new technology. Utilizing and using a technology is easy, just a little time and practice to be in the productive state.
