We have to admit. The business of IT is business. Everytime we refer to IT we are definitely talking, working and managing on business infrastructure.
The critical elements of business infrastructure that is the subject of this blog post must be dealt with caution from the prospect and vista of, most especially in organization where responsibility purely lies on, technology leader and its team. Of course, vendors must be concerned as well for business sake but it's not really their main job to do so.
This is significant where technology team must translate business needs to business operating reality. With their vendors, and external advisor, if any, technical team must remain circumspect and do whatever they have to in order to determine that their next move is all about enabling their company's business. This must be a clear focus.
Technical team then must have been able to exhaust the existing capabilities of their technology and what else they can make to improve its state, and what limitations and problems they are trying to solve when they plan to acquire and build their new enterprise technology.
We have mentioned vendors, which are owners, manufacturers and developers of solutions in this context and this is as important as maintaining a solid and final build of a technology for production use by business customers and subscribers. Nowadays, vendors are really stacking up their support capability by building on top of their technology some form of mechanisms applying newer and effective technologies i.e. IoT protocols, to maximize such opportunity to help their customers quickly and directly resolve any technology-related issues. While this may really shorten response time in many instances, some businesses, and that's with technology team, may prefer to still have full control on their system, in particular the critical administrative access, privileges and settings.
Meaning such capabilities can still be provisioned but it must not be assumed that they are as practical as the technology team's ability to watch and operate a fully functioning, with a much more predictable, enterprise technology. It could be possible to provision it and let the customer's technology team to activate and administer them. And when help is badly needed, those technical mechanisms can be used, with caution, and still with their approval to be enabled, either temporarily or until some time while system behavior is being observed further, which you may see where this is going. Do you see it?
This scenario alone could make, and continue to function as expected, or break the production system of any organization.
